My work revolves around the concept of intersubjectivity. The accumulation of marks and symbols, which emerge through the process, work as a self-portrait and reflect the relationship between the self and the world. Working emotively allows me to work more intuitively or unconsciously and therefore project my sense of self into an art object and into a physical space. I explore the idea of experience and how it can paradoxically emerge as a narrative but also contain a transient quality. I use mixed media materials and spontaneous mark making to reflect these concepts. I integrate dreamscapes, memories and commonly occurring experiences. Much of my process is informed by Jung’s idea of the unconscious meaning of images and how this can be accessed through creative play.
